Honeymoon To-Dos from Martha

Martha Stewart (or Martha, as I like to call her since I love her ideas so much I feel as though we are good friends) published a Honeymoon To-Do List. It only has 10 items, which is just a start in my opinion, but it’s been helpful as we prepare for our honeymoon. I wanted to share!

What else should we do to pack and prepare for our honeymoon?

Developing a Pinterest Strategy

We all know how important Pinterest has become for today’s brides. If you want to see just how much I’m using it to plan our wedding, you can see our boards here.

There are so many people pinning that the wedding section of the site is getting a bit overwhelming. Mashable recently posted an article with suggestions on how to use Pinterest for wedding planning in a way that’s useful.  Here’s how you can use the site to plan the most amazing wedding:

  • Be selective in who you follow. You don’t have to follow everyone and shouldn’t if you are only looking for one type of content. Those friends of yours planning for their first child are pinning sweet pictures of nurseries and onesies, but since you are planning for a wedding and not a child, you may want to hold off on following them. Note to our mothers who read this blog: I said hold off on following them for a while, not forever. Don’t worry. :)
  • Take some time to separate your one wedding board into several boards by theme. I recently went through and created boards based on type of planning. In one weekend I went from one Wedding board to boards for flowers, details, groomsmen, food and drinks, guestbooks, and about 10 more.
    • This takes a bit of time. Pinterest does not have a bulk edit mode so I had to go in and edit each image to assign it to the new boards. It took me an entire Saturday since I had so many pins, but it was WELL worth it. I can quickly and easily find my flower ideas when talking to a florist or my hair inspiration board when talking to a hair stylist.

Advice from The Knot

The Knot recently published a slideshow called, “20 Details Every Bride Forgets.” I’ve done a lot of planning…a LOT of planning, so I assumed I had thought of just about everything. I looked through the slide show as a quiz. Have I really planned for everything? I was surprised by a few ideas that I hadn’t thought of!

Side note: Every time I plan one thing, three new items pop up. It seems like a never-ending list of to-dos to prepare for this wedding!

Telling family about reserved seating:

It won’t matter how cute your “Reserved” sign is if your family doesn’t know the seats are meant for them. Make sure everyone is clear at the rehearsal where they’re allowed to sit.

Bringing extra cash:

Whether it’s tipping your hairstylist, the band, or the hotel bellhop, you want to have some extra cash (including singles) on hand.

Creating an itinerary:

Just because you know the schedule for the day forward and backward doesn’t mean everyone does. Make sure your relatives know where they need to be and when (for example, not to leave the church if you’re taking family photos after the ceremony), to save time and reduce confusion.

All three ideas taken directly from The Knot, 20 Details Every Bride Forgets.

Is there anything else that we should make sure to remember? What did you forget for your wedding day that you wished you would have done?

The Honeymoon

I find myself looking forward to our honeymoon more and more every day.

Taylor and I have traveled together before, but it’s always been on a family vacation or a road trip. I can’t wait to fly away with him for a whole week by ourselves! So adult!

We have planned, scheduled, and booked the honeymoon – we are going to Napa Valley! Oh, I can’t wait! I’m so looking forward to seeing views like these in person:

Have you been to Napa before? What was your most memorable experience? What would you most look forward to if you went back?

In 6 months, we’ll be married!

Last week, on April 6th, we passed the 6 month marker. We’re halfway there! We are getting married in SIX MONTHS!

Six months from last Saturday we will be getting married.

Six months from last week we will be enjoying our honeymoon.

Six months from today we will be an old married couple just livin’ life and I can’t wait. :)

Do you have any advice for savoring these precious months of our engagement?

We Registered!

We have gotten to do one of the things I most looked forward to doing as an engaged couple – We registered!

Before I got engaged, I was always secretly envious of the couples I would see registering at Target, smiling while they scanned their way down the aisles. Now it’s our turn as the cute couple in Target (and Bed, Bath & Beyond and The Home Depot)! It’s not that I’m excited to get, get, get. We don’t expect anything from anyone. It is fun, though, to start piecing together the home we’ll share.

For every platter or serving bowl, I can picture us dishing out delicious meals to our guests. For every pillow or blanket, I can imagine us spending lazy Saturdays in the bed. For every gadget or game, I can see all the joy and life Taylor will bring to the house when it officially becomes our home.

We registered at Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and The Home Depot.

We had very different experiences when registering at each of these stores (more to come on that later), but it was all such a fun opportunity to browse the stores with Taylor and start building our home.

Are there any registry essentials we should make sure to include? What were you most excited to have on your registry?

We Are Young and Beautiful and…Broke

Love this take on being young and beautiful…and embracing the fact that you don’t have it all.

You Are Young, Broke and Beautiful

We may not have a ton of money in the bank or wear designer clothes, but that’s okay. We are young and we are in love. We’ll get there. And the most exciting part? We’ll get there together.

I Said “Yes!” to the Dress

I went to Bel Fiore Bridal on Saturday to try on wedding gowns for the first time.

Welcome to Bel Fiore Bridal

I expected to look at beautiful dresses, have fun, and spend the day with my mom, FMIL, MOH, and two of my bridesmaids. I did not, however, expect to walk out with my wedding dress!

There’s so much to tell, but since I’m keeping all details from my fiance, let’s just say that it is BEAUTIFUL.

Walking in to Bel Fiore, I was instantly stunned by all the lovely dresses. I couldn’t help but state the obvious: “Look! Wedding dresses!”

Bel Fiore Bridal

When we arrived, I met Meghan who would be helping me find and try on wedding dresses. [Thanks, Meghan!] We talked about which dresses I was interested in seeing and I even showed her a few pictures I had torn from wedding magazines.

Mom, Janet Sue, Laura, Catherine, and Katherine all helped me find dresses that matched the particular style I wanted and even a few alternate styles. They were a huge help! It was a bit overwhelming and they were great. [Thanks, girls!]

I ended up getting the first dress I tried on. It is so beautiful. Oh! I wish I could say more!

You can find Bel Fiore on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
